Transparent Iron

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

Transparent Iron

How cool is this one?

B-IRON 725 (on the right) is a uniquely designed iron. As you can see from the photo, it’s body is transparent. It’s actually made of tempered glass, which is different from any ordinary glass as this is heat resistant. It can handle temperature changes better.

Designed by Dongseok,Lee and Jihyung,Jung, the idea for this iron is so that one can see creases being flattened out of the clothes from all angles.

The red geometrical lines on the iron are where heat emanate. Those are Nichrome made electro-thermal wire. Twisting the handle will give the user a better grip, support and angle.

This concept won the Red Dot Design Award in 2008.

Atari Joystick Lamp

Published by Rachel under Gaming, Home Gadgets Edit This

Joystick Lamp

Okay, this lamp seems to be more appropriate for a bachelor’s apartment, but a geeky lady technophile, who is also into gaming, will most definitely love this one, too. She will also recognize what this lamp resembles — it’s none other than the Atari Joystick. Atari’s used to be the video game craze of the 80’s.

The guys over at Instructables, a DIY site, created this one. It has a step by step guide on how, even you can re-create this.

We don’t see stuff like this everyday, don’t we? Heck, we don’t even see Atari’s anymore. So, this lamp isn’t only a work of art, a functional work of art. It is also a sentimental piece, an ode to the 80’s.

Warm Towels Everyday From Towel Spa

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

Towel Spa Towel Heater This is one product I do need right now, with the weather so cold and my body is about to succumb to cough, colds and fever because of it.

Who doesn’t love stepping out of the shower or the bath to a cosy warm towel?

This household helper warms your towels in under five minutes. And because it is big enough to fit blankets and robes, you can put those in too and get a warmer comfort from them. The size of the gadget itself is also compact. Put this under the sink, by the shower or anywhere in the bathroom without distraction. The towel warmer has auto shut-off. You don’t have to worry about overheating.

The towel warmer is only $79.99 at Brookstone.

Recycled Joystick Hooks

Published by Rachel under Gaming, Home Gadgets Edit This

Recycled Joystick Hooks

If this looks mighty familiar to you….it’s because I know you’ve already seen it as a younger child, while playing video games at the arcade. Even if weren’t into it back then I am pretty confident you are still familiar with the joystick.

Because joysticks like this are no longer in vogue, an artist based in Santiago, Chile, have come up with a better use for it. Designer Felipe Morales didn’t have much anything to do with the item, but his concept is actually quite useful. He recycled this and turned it into a coat rack or hanger.

It doesn’t look so bad, does it?

The item went on display at the StgoDiseno,  a design exhibition which was held in 2005.

Flower Fire Extinguisher

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

Flower Fire Extinguisher

Who would think that this pretty thing by the wall, one that resembles Zen-minimalist Japanese art, is actually a fire extinguisher.

Called the Flower Fire Extinguisher, this thing is made of decorative silk flowers and is of course, miles apart from how a regular extinguisher looks (I mean, those? You can’t even put on display!).

But say you have a kitchen emergency? The flowers can be dropped on to the pan and the flames dissipates right away. Watch this video demonstration of how it works…it’s actually amazing:

Though, I think this fire extinguisher only works for grease and pans. It doesn’t work as well as when curtains or electrical appliances catch fire.

Available for $59 at Japan Trend Shop.

Custom Star Wars Wall Clock

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

Star Wars Wall Clock

Normally, I’d stay away from any Star Wars merchandise because, while I consider myself sort of a geek in some aspects….there is such as thing as too geeky. But this custom made wall clock is different. First of all, it isn’t anything like any other Star Wars stuff being sold by the franchise.  When you buy it, only a handful of people have it since it’s not mass produced. And I wouldn’t mind displaying this in the house.

This wall clock is from an Etsy seller named YOUgNeek. The clock’s design consists of twelve Action Fleet Micro Machine battleships, plastered against a chrome and acrylic generic wall clock. You can apparently pick what battleships you’d like to have on it.

The merchandise costs a little under $90.

For a Star Wars fan, this would be really perfect.

Cute Human Soap Dispensers

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

My son’s bathroom has a cartoon character container for a soap dispenser. Now that he’s outgrown that, I’m thinking of getting him new ones. All I have are containers with flowers on it…. which doesn’t suit him, of course.

But these soap dispensers should fit right in:

Human Soap Dispensers

It’s the kind of design his age would appreciate because it borders between cute and creepy. I’m sure he and his friends would have tons of laughs about this. I like it personally because of the muted cool colors (black, grey and blue), one that is right up in style and designs meant for tweener boys.

Liquid soap dispensers are kinda girly girly, but even boys have to learn to wash their hands appropriately, so this one will do.

It’s $7.99 at Perpetual Kid

Colorful iPhone Coasters

iphone drink coasters

How cool are these iPhone coasters?

These are available from  Meninos,  a site run by Brazilian designers who also customize hard drives. So cool are these coasters that it’s been sold out for the holidays! Guess a lot of people thought this would make a great gift, especially to those who are addicted to the iPhone.

The coasters measure 85mm square and is constructed using MDF plywood and vinyl. Varnish is applied to protect the design and under the coaster, rubber layers are in place to keep it from slipping.

A set of this will set you back at $60.

These are unlicensed Apple products, I assume.

Walkstation: The Treadmill/Desk

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

walkstation.jpg I’ve got a confession to make — I gained three pounds over the holidays. Working on the desk all day long doesn’t really help. My body needs the exercise and I have been finding ways to lose the pounds even while I’m sitting down. Obviously, I haven’t had any luck.

As crazy as this looks, I do think I need a work desk like this. Because I never have the time to go to the gym, the only time I can stay fit is while I’m also working. Multi-tasking at its best!

The treadmill workdesk is from Steelcase, an office furniture maker based in the US. They call this the Walkstation and you basically get the idea how it works just by looking at the photo. Only, this gear costs about $5,000.

Well, alright…maybe big companies can afford it. But it’s not so feasible for work at home moms such as myself.

I guess I’d have to lose weight the normal method.

Microwave Plays A Christmas Song

Published by Rachel under Home Gadgets Edit This

How amazing is this?

A group of people placed some forty-nine microwaves together, turned them on, with their timer bells going off strategically and with precision, to play a very familiar Christmas music.

Watch this video and be entertained:
