Schmapple Site Parody

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

Schmapple Parody Site

I wonder how long before this site is taken down and sued by Apple? Or can it in fact be sued? I am not sure of something has been infringed from this site doing a parody of the Apple Store.

The Schmapple is a parody website featuring useless items and services you don’t actually get to order or buy. The purpose of why such a site exists is for mockery and fun and those who are familiar with the actual Apple Store and a consumer of Apple products may either love or hate.

I particularly appreciate the humor in it. I mean, I know a lot of people can take advantage of the iTherapy service for one….knowing that there are plenty of Mac users out there with endless questions about their gadget.

The Camera Repair Blog

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

I am admittedly a klutz and a technically challenged person when it comes to handling digital cameras. For whatever reason, these things just automatically stop working when I hold them that I sometimes feel the universe seems to tell me — I’m never meant to own a digital camera.

Sometimes, it is because I don’t usually understand the functions and features right away, which is what this site, The Camera Repair Blog , is here for. It is a simple, no-nonsense, practical DIY web blog which teaches everyone simple fix and tricks to working their way into a digital camera.

It is basically a How To for the Digital Camera Dummy, which I know, happens to a lot of people.

UStreamTV: Watch Obama’s Inauguration Online

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

UStreamTV

Well, tomorrow is going to be a big day for America as the country inaugurates its very first black President to office, Barack Obama.

The world will truly be watching. In some ways, it is also a big, monumental event worldwide. I don’t dabble into politics as any regular person does, but for this moment, I am sure going to pause and watch.

If you can’t catch this historical event on television for some reason, one can always turn to the internet for this.  One site, UStream.TV, will host the inauguration online, for free. The great thing about it is that the video may be streamed through your iPhone, so that you can watch the on goings and not miss as history makes changes wherever you are. You can get the viewing application for the iPhone over here.

Recycling Your Gadgets In Exchange for Cash or Gift Cards

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

rsk_logo_do_stuff.gifWhat a cool offer this is from Radioshack! Their trade in program encourages all of us to be responsible gadget owners.

If you have any of these items lying around the house and is deemed of no use to you anymore, you can have it appraised at the RadioShack:

  • Car Audio Head Units
  • Digital Cameras and Camcorders
  • Game Consoles and Media
  • GPS Devices
  • MP3 Players
  • Notebook Computers
  • Wireless Phones

Now if the price value of it is acceptable to you, you can deposit your item with the store or mail them back with the peripherals. And then in two weeks or so, RadioShack will send you the gift card or the cash equivalent. It’s a good way to earn a little extra from the “junk” lying around at your homes.

Says Pete Whitsett, the company’s executive VP for Marketing:

“We know that consumers are looking for innovative ways to save money, and we think this program will help them stretch their dollars in time for the holiday shopping season at their neighborhood RadioShack”

Are You Ready for Cyber Monday?

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

If you have missed out on Black Friday (or trotting down to brick and mortar stores to check what you can hoard at the sale) then you can probably try your luck on Cyber Monday, which is the online version of Black Friday.

Online retailers at the official Cyber Monday site, Shop.Org, will be holding this special online sale, which has since taken place since 2005. There are reportedly over 500 shops to check out, these shops are member-retailers of Shop.Org.

You can read up on Cyber Monday in this press release here. Or you can visit the Cyber Monday online site, and check what they have in store for you.

I see stores like Ebag, Lands End, the Apple Store, Target, Dell, Overstock, Sears and Amazon on their list of merchants.

The great thing about Cyber Mondays is that you beat the shopping crowd and have a stress-free shopping extravanganza. Let’s hope the shop’s servers don’t slow down from all the online shopping people are going to do!

If God Was On Facebook

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

Do you own a Facebook account? If you do, then you know people find everything in there, right? I own a Facebook myself. But I only got around to using and exploring the site nearly a year after I signed up because I thought it was too complicated. It had too many features on it that I didn’t know where to begin and I couldn’t understand why other people were liking the site.

Facebook has some celebrity accounts, too. Many of these are probably posers but some of these accounts are very real. Being friends with these celebrities and tracking (stalking!) what they have on their Facebook makes them more human and normal like the rest of us

But I bet you didn’t know even God has his own Facebook account, huh?

Those who are familiar with that site will definitely get a kick out of this:

Spruce Up Gmail with Gmail Themes

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

I wasn’t aware theme options was available with Gmail. I wasn’t aware there have been unofficial plugins for us to incorporate themes on it. But now, everything is official. Gmail has recently released some thirty themes for their email service. Anyone with a Gmail account can now set a theme for their email access, as seen in these samples below:

Gmail Theme

I’ve always thought it’s basic look was too clean but too plain and too bland, as with any other services provided by Google. With these theme options, we can do away with a boring Gmail  interface.

But I hope Google comes up with even more options. I’m not exactly loving what they have right now. I wish they have something in yellow or red.

To customize your Gmail themes, look for it under your Gmail’s Settings.  I did mine in Candy but I think I’ll be switching themes now and then.

Big savings at JustTheDisc, CDs and DVDs at $2.99

Published by Rachel under Cool Sites Edit This

Just The Disc is a big discount store for CDs and DVDs that offer at really low cost. For only $2.99 to $3.99, you could get a copy of your favorite movie or TV series on DVD; or a CD album of your most loved artists. The reason why the discs are so affordable is because you will literally get “just the disc”, without the jewel or keep cases, without even the cover art.

Just The DiscThis services is good for those who have lost the discs from their collection or are only looking to get the disc and store them in a different container. I know of some people who literally throw the cases away, and keep their disc in a neat file or storage they have customized.

Just The Disc uses Paypal as its premiere payment service. They currently have a library of 200,000 disc for both music and movies/TV.
