Samsun has recently unveiled its newest handset called Blue Earth. It is a cellphone that is very different from the rest as it is deemed “eco-friendly”. The body or PCM is made from recycled water bottles, for one thing. For another thing, the phone carries an eco mode, meaning usage is minimized and efficient. Screen brighness and backlights do not use the maximum energy, as well as Bluetooth usage. The phone even has a built in pedometer to indicate CO2 emission.
And the most environmentally efficient use? The phone is equipped with a solar panel on the back portion, which enables the phone to be sufficiently charged when you’re outside. Using solar energy, you can make calls anytime and not have to worry about the battery dying, as long as the sun is bright and shiny.
The phone’s price has not yet been announced. But environmentalist should be on the lookout for this by mid-2009 when it is released. And then we’ll know for sure just how effective it is when running its operating system using the kind of energy it is supposedly going to work on.

Nokia recently unveiled its flagship handset, the Nokia N97. It’s been branded as the most technologically advanced mobile in the world, making it possible to not just send in text or calls, but to use the internet extensively.
The mobile features a 3.5 touchscreen, it’s quite generous for a handset. It’s even bigger than that of the iPhone.
It also has a QWERTY keyboard for easy typing and dialing.
Because it actually a tiny mobile internet phone, emails, surfing and instant messaging may be easily configured. You can update your social networking sites like Facebook or even keep bookmarks and get regular RSS feeds from this very portable device.
The cellphone has a powerful 23GB on board memory, a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, GPS sensor and microSDHC memory card slot to store an extra 16GB of memory space.
The gadget will be released in Europe first by early next year.

Samsung’s Cleo mobile phone, which has recently been launched in Canada, is shaped like no other cellphone I’ve seen. It is oddly a solid square unit. It reminds me too much of a compact kit which we women use to touch up make-up.

But odd as this phone may seem to look, the Cleo, is in fact, quite a handy devise to carry around. The size isn’t a bother at all because the screen is big enough that it doesn’t leave the user visually impaired. It even comes with a set of QWERTY keyboard pad, where typing SMS isn’t also compromised. The compact cellphone is spacious.
It also features:
- 1.3MP camera
- an MP3 player
- 8GB expandable memory
- Bluetooth
And the final touch? The floral pattern on its surface. Samsung Cleo comes with three lovely colors — pink, champagne (as sampled in photo) and the limited edition Kisses from Cleo.
This gadget is exclusive to Solo Mobile, a service provider in Canada.

I’m not quite sure how much baby monitors cost these days, but I’m guessing it’s definitely a lot more money than this $.99 application for the iPhone. The application should work the same as any other type of baby monitor in that when the unit is left where the baby is, it will detect any movement, sound or stirring. The iPhone then will call you on a designated number to alert you.
Because it’s an iPhone, the “monitor” works on any range. You can be at the grocery store, for instance, and can still monitor the baby.
But then…it’s still quite an impractical gadget don’t you think? I mean, to leave an iPhone to basically do just this one thing is using such a powerful gadget for little function. And even if it does offer unlimited range… I doubt any parent would wanna leave the house that far, especially with such a fancy baby monitor.
I mean, for me, a baby monitor is tons helpful when you’re also within the same range as your baby — such as being in the next room, or at the downstairs part of the house. If you plan on going somewhere else, then it’s not a baby monitor you’d need, right?
For a $.99 application, it still wouldn’t stop me from getting an actual baby monitor, though.

The one thing that struck me with this latest cellphone from LG is that it looks so much like a make-up compact kit at 3.3 x 2.4 x 0.7 in dimension. But then, the gadget is so small, the QWERTY keyboards are all squeezed together. Even with small fingers, it’s hard to navigate or text through this unit.
On the other hand, for something so small, it comes with some okay to good useful features — Google access, IM access, TV streaming, 2 megapixel camera and radio. An easy, one-click gadget for women who do not really need such a complicated unit. But for a lady who wants something more powerful, this will be a disappointment.
There are two models available but the purple one is the unit with floral prints. If that’s the only reason why it’s being pitched as a “lady cellphone”, then I would have to protest.
The LG LX6000 Lotus cellphone is available via Sprint.

I would have to say that with everything cellphones can do to make our lives more streamlined now, this is the most impressive one for me. The SENS is still a concept phone but it’s a concept I can get on board with. It is a cellphone that uses a clever technology which aids those with poor eyesight (or no eyesight at all!)
The key pad has an audible feedback. Pressing a certain number in the key pad, and the phone will tell you what it is. If it’s in fact the right key you need to dial, pressing it again a second time will complete the input. When a call is made and confirmed after a sequence of inputs, the user will be able to hear a sound signifying that it is going through.
On the side, the phone has a built in color illumination that blinks for any status changes —- like getting calls, or text messages, or when the battery is already on low. This is especially helpful for those who are visually impaired but can still function with 20% or so eyesight.
The phone will also have an integrated Blutooth headset so that the audie feedback won’t disturb others when in public places.
